Media Walls with Electric Fireplaces

A television above a built-in electric fire is the layout most people picture when they think of a media wall. We design and build each one around your room, your TV and the fire you choose, with lighting, shelving and storage worked in from the start.

One Wall for the Fire, the TV and Everything Around Them

A media wall with a fireplace brings the two focal points of a living room together. The electric fire sits in its own recess low on the wall, the television is mounted above with its cables hidden, and the space either side is put to work as lit shelving, display niches or cupboards.

Because an electric fire needs a power supply rather than a chimney or flue, this kind of wall can go almost anywhere: built out from a flat wall, wrapped around an existing chimney breast, or run the full width of the room.

Every LM Carpentry media wall is made to measure. Leigh designs it around the dimensions of your wall and the equipment going into it, so the proportions suit the room rather than a standard kit size.

Fireplace Media Wall Designs We Build

These are the layouts shown in the gallery below. Any of them can be adapted, combined or scaled to your wall.

TV Above a Letterbox Fire

The classic arrangement: a wide, shallow electric fire set into a central section with the television mounted directly above it. Clean lines, one focal point and no trailing cables.

Lit Alcove Shelving

Display niches either side of the fire and TV, each with its own lighting. A good fit for walls with an existing chimney breast, where the alcoves are already there to be used.

Oak Slat Feature Panels

Vertical oak slat panelling behind the television or inside the shelving adds warmth and texture, and pairs well with LED strip lighting.

Full-Width Fire with Cabinetry

A long electric fire set into a run of low cupboards beneath an oak top, with tall shelved sections at each end. Storage for consoles, routers and everything else you would rather not see.

LED Strips and Spotlights

LED strip lighting and spotlights can be built into shelves and niches to set the mood. Tell us the LED colour you have in mind when you enquire.

Your Choice of Finish

Choose a plastered and painted finish for a seamless built-in look, or a material or panel finish for contrast, in colours to suit your room.

Planning a Media Wall with a Fire

A few details shape the design. These are the things we ask about when you request a quote.

Wall Height and Length

Approximate measurements are enough to start. They tell us how wide the fire can be, how much room there is either side for shelving, and whether storage will fit below.

Chimney Breasts and Fixtures

Let us know if there is a chimney breast or anything already fixed to the wall. A chimney breast is often an advantage, giving a natural central section with alcoves either side.

Electrical Points

The fire, the television and any lighting all need power. Tell us how many sockets and aerial points are on the wall now so the design can be planned around them.

TV Size and Position

The television sets the proportions of the whole wall. Knowing the screen size early means the recess, the fire width and the shelving can all be lined up around it.

What Needs Storing

Think about consoles, sound bars, set-top boxes and everyday clutter. Side cabinetry keeps them close to hand and out of sight.

Lighting and Finish

Decide whether you want LED strips, spotlights or both, and the colour of the light. Paired with your chosen wall finish, this is what gives the wall its character.

Media Walls with Fireplaces: Your Questions Answered

Does an electric fire in a media wall need a chimney?

No. Electric fires need a power supply but no chimney or flue, which is why they suit media walls so well. The wall can be built on a flat wall, around a chimney breast or across the full width of a room.

Can you build a media wall around an existing chimney breast?

Yes. Our quote form asks whether the wall has a chimney breast so the design can make use of it. The breast usually becomes the central section for the fire and TV, with the alcoves either side fitted out as shelving or cupboards.

Can I have storage as well as a fire and TV?

Yes. Side cabinetry, alcove shelving and display niches can all be included, and are designed in from the start so the whole wall reads as one piece.

What finishes can I choose from?

Media walls can be finished as plasterboard, plastered and painted, or with a material or panel finish such as oak slat panelling, in a choice of colours.

How much does a media wall with a fireplace cost?

Every wall is different, so we don't publish fixed prices. The cost depends on the size of the wall, the lighting, the amount of cabinetry and the finish. Quotes are free, detailed and come with no obligation.
