The recesses either side of a chimney breast are made for built-in furniture. We design and build alcove cupboards, cabinets and shelving to the exact width, depth and height of each alcove.
Furniture That Fits the Recess Exactly
Alcoves are rarely the same size as each other, and rarely square. Walls lean, skirting boards run through and the chimney breast is seldom dead centre. Freestanding furniture leaves gaps on every side; a fitted alcove unit is made for the recess it is going into.
The most familiar arrangement is a cupboard at the bottom with shelves above, but an alcove can just as easily hold a floor-to-ceiling cupboard, a bookcase, lit display shelving or a wardrobe.

Yes. Several of the media walls in our gallery use the alcoves either side of a chimney breast for lit shelving and cupboards, designed together with the TV and fire.
