Oak & Glass Balustrade Staircases

Replacing spindles with glass panels and cladding the staircase in oak is one of the most effective ways to bring light into a hallway. We refurbish your existing staircase with oak newel posts, oak handrails and glass balustrades, on the stairs and along the landing.

A Brighter Hallway from the Staircase You Already Have

A staircase with solid spindles or boxed-in sides blocks light and makes a hallway feel narrower than it is. Glass balustrade panels let that light through, and the oak around them gives the staircase the look of a new one.

This is a refurbishment, not a replacement. Your existing staircase stays in place. The newel posts and stringers are clad in oak, oak caps finish the posts, and glass panels are fitted between them beneath an oak handrail.

The same treatment can continue along the landing, so the balustrade matches from the bottom step to the top of the stairs.

Balustrade and Cladding Options

Our quote form offers three design routes, plus a choice on the steps themselves.

Full Oak and Glass

Oak newel post cladding, stringer cladding and oak newel caps with glass balustrade panels. The most open, contemporary look.

Full Oak with Oak Spindles

The same oak cladding and caps, with oak spindles in place of glass for a traditional finish.

Oak with Black Metal Spindles

Oak posts and stringers paired with black metal spindles for a sharper contrast.

Oak Step Cladding

The steps can be clad in oak as well, or left carpeted. It is an optional extra you choose when you enquire.

Landing Balustrades

Glass or spindles carried along the landing so upstairs matches the stairs.

What We Need to Know About Your Staircase

Every staircase is built differently. These details let us quote accurately.

Number of Newel Posts

Newel posts are the thick vertical posts at the top, bottom and any turns of the staircase. Most staircases have between two and four.

Number of Steps

A simple count of the steps tells us the length of the balustrade and the stringers to be clad.

Steps: Oak or Carpet

Decide whether you would like the steps clad in oak or kept as they are. Both work well with glass.

The Landing

Tell us if the balustrade continues along a landing, and roughly how far.

Photos of the Staircase

Photos are required for stair refurbishment enquiries. They show us how your staircase is put together and what the new balustrade needs to fix to.

Your Timescale

Our form asks when you would like the work done, from as soon as possible to simply gathering ideas.

Glass Balustrade Staircases: Your Questions Answered

Do I need a whole new staircase to have a glass balustrade?

No. Our stair refurbishment service works with your existing staircase. The posts and stringers are clad in oak and the balustrade is replaced with glass.

Can I keep carpet on the stairs?

Yes. Oak step cladding is optional. Several staircases in our gallery combine carpeted steps with oak and glass.

What if I prefer spindles to glass?

We also fit oak spindles and black metal spindles, with the same oak newel post and stringer cladding.

Can the landing be done to match?

Yes. Landing balustrades can be fitted in the same oak and glass, or oak and spindle, design as the stairs.

How much does a glass balustrade staircase cost?

It depends on the number of steps and newel posts, the length of any landing and whether the steps are clad. Send photos through our quote form for a free, no-obligation price.
